I developed a custom Conga solution for a company that needed to compile detailed certification summaries for their workforce. A client needed a fully automated PTO tracking system inside Salesforce to manage various types of leave, handle approvals, and dynamically calculate vacation accruals. I designed and built a comprehensive time-off management system that streamlined the entire process, ensuring accurate tracking and full automation.
The Solution
I developed a custom Salesforce data model that included:
- Time Off Policy Object – Defined accrual rules based on tenure, rollover allowances, and bonus days granted during onboarding.
- Time Off Balance Object – Tracked real-time PTO balances per employee, automatically updated with every request.
- Time Off Request Object – Allowed employees to request leave, triggering a manager approval process within Salesforce. Once approved, requests were added to a company-wide calendar and deducted from available balances.
- Holiday Object – Mapped company-recognized holidays, dynamically adjusting calculations if a PTO request overlapped with a holiday.

- Weekly PTO Accrual Calculations: Employees’ available PTO was automatically accrued based on their policy, factoring in length of service, rollover allowances, and special negotiated terms.

A real estate and tax law firm I worked with specialized in creating these complex entity structures—often involving a C Corporation with multiple LLCs and sometimes a Qualified Retirement Plan (QRP) for tax-advantaged investing. To help their clients visualize these setups, the firm needed a dynamic, easy-to-update blueprint diagram that showed how cash flowed between entities in a clear, professional format.
The Challenge

I built a custom “Round Robin” object that defined key assignment rules, including:
- Opportunity-Based Assignment Criteria – Factored in key deal details such as opportunity amount, location, and other attributes to determine qualification for a specific round robin.
- Round Robin Members (Child Object) – Stored qualified sales reps for each round robin, allowing the system to intelligently assign leads only to eligible team members.
- Weighted & Prioritized Distribution – Allowed for fine-tuned control over assignment, enabling:
- Priority tiers (e.g., senior reps get more high-value deals).
- Weighted distribution (e.g., if four reps were part of the round robin, the top two could get 40% of the opportunities each, while two junior reps received 10% each).
- Automated Assignment Logic – When a new opportunity was created, Salesforce:
- Checked existing round robins to see if the opportunity met criteria.
- Identified eligible members and calculated their current opportunity distribution.
- Assigned the opportunity automatically to the appropriate team member, ensuring fair and strategic lead distribution.
