Salesforce Developer Salary (2026): What the Data Actually Shows

Header image: Salesforce Developer salary 2026. Glassdoor median total pay $131K, range $108K to $160K, Built In average total $124,488.

Hey friends,

A Salesforce Developer in the US makes about $131K in median total pay, with most people between $108K and $160K, according to self-reported Glassdoor data (Glassdoor, checked October 2026). Built In's self-reported average is a bit lower at $124,488 total (Built In, October 2026).

I'm a senior Salesforce developer myself, and most salary pages drive me nuts with unsourced numbers. So every figure below links to where it came from and says what kind of data it is. For how the role grows over time, see my Salesforce developer career path guide.

Comparison of Salesforce Developer pay sources: Glassdoor median total pay $131K, Built In average total pay $124,488, and the BLS median for all software developers $135,980 as a proxy.

Three sources measure different things, so their numbers don't match exactly.

Software developers (all), median$135,980BLS, May 2025. Proxy occupation, not Salesforce-specific

Glassdoor's figure is a median and Built In's is an average, so they're not directly comparable. The BLS number covers every kind of software developer, which is why it's only a proxy. BLS also projects 10% job growth for that occupation from 2025 to 2035.

Pay by experience

Built In's averages show the jump with experience: about $70,333 for developers with under a year of experience and $144,302 for 7+ years (Built In, Oct 2026). Glassdoor puts experienced developers (5+ years) at $78,574 to $148,314, based on 3,295 contributions.

Glassdoor also lists an entry-level range, but it's based on only 5 contributions, so I'm not using it. A small sample like that can swing wildly.

Pay by city

Built In lists averages by metro. The top few, as shown in October 2026:

MetroAverage
Orange County$152,500
Houston$128,625
Atlanta$127,667
Phoenix$127,286
Remote$126,333
San Diego$125,571

One caveat: Built In's own heading for that list says "software engineers", and it doesn't show sample sizes. Use it as a rough guide.

Where the developer path goes

Glassdoor shows Salesforce Developer IV at $113K to $158K and Developer Manager at $112K to $171K (Glassdoor, Oct 2026). For comparison, the median Salesforce Admin is at $100K; see my Salesforce Admin salary breakdown.

One more surprising line from Glassdoor's page: it says bigger companies typically pay 34.77% less than smaller ones for this role. I'd treat that as a hint to look at product companies and consultancies, not as a rule.

Does Platform Developer I raise your pay?

There's no reliable public data that isolates what a certification adds to a developer's salary, so I won't quote one.

What I've seen: PD1 gets you considered, especially if you're coming from another language or from admin work. After that, pay follows what you can build and how well you handle real-world limits, testing and deployments. That's exactly what PD1 tests, which is why I'd study it properly instead of cramming. My 8-week PD1 study plan has you write code every week.

Remote and contract work

I don't have sourced contract rates. BLS lists a median hourly wage for software developers, but that's employee pay, not a contract rate. Contracting can pay more per hour, but you cover your own benefits, gaps between projects and taxes, so compare the full picture.

How I sourced this

Every figure comes from a page I loaded in full on October 11, 2026. Glassdoor and Built In are self-reported by users and change over time. BLS figures are from its May 2025 survey for all software developers. Salesforce Ben, Indeed, Levels.fyi and ZipRecruiter were blocked or unavailable, so they're not included. This isn't career or financial advice.

Hope this helps!

Best,

Nick
